Obit – Mr. James Long
A United States Air Force veteran, Mr. James Long age 86 of the Bellar Hollow Community, was pronounced deceased at 10:45 p.m. Sunday evening May 19, 2024 at the Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon where he was admitted Thursday evening May 16th.
Mr. Long was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and was to be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood.
No public memorial services have been scheduled.
He was born James Neville Long in Monon in White County, Indiana on July 10, 1937 and was the son of the late George E. Long who died at the age of 56 on March 24, 1959 and Margaret Ellen Gear Long who died at the age of 60 on August 14, 1979,
He was united in marriage on June 20, 1983 to Randolph County, Indiana native, the former Kathy Jo Barnett.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel Long, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mr. Long was an over the city truck driver for Holland Express before retiring in 1994 and was a member of the Teamsters Union for over thirty years.
He was a Peacetime Veteran having proudly served our country from May 16, 1955 until being honorably discharged six years later.
Surviving in addition to his wife of forty one years is a son, Mitchell Long and wife Lori of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Shelley Long Forehand of Owasso, Oklahoma, two honorary sons, Guy McConnell of Spencer, Indiana and Billy Ray Wood of the Defeated Creek Community, three sisters; mother-in-law; brother-in-law and sister-in-law; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
