Obit – Mrs. Janetta Agee Whitaker

Mrs. Janetta Agee Whitaker age 80 of Hartsville was discovered unresponsive at her College Street home on Sunday morning August 11, 2024 and was pronounced deceased by a Trousdale County E.M.S. Paramedic at 6:15 a.m. from apparent heart failure. She was 80.

Mrs. Whitaker is at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Graveside services and inurnment will be beside her husband at the Witcher Cemetery in the Bagdad Community with the day and hour to be set. Edward L. Anderson will officiate.

The Whitaker family will receive friends at the graveside following the interment.

She was one of three children, two daughters and a son born to the late Wade Dow Agee who died August 5, 1986 at the age of 70 and Ruby Pauline Kittrell Agee who died November 17, 2000 at the age of 83 and was born Janetta Sue Agee in the Bagdad Community of Jackson County on April 26, 1944. 

She was a graduate of Smith County High School and grew up in the Turkey Creek Community.

Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson County native Jerry Barnes Whitaker, who died June 20, 2013 at the age of 63 following twenty-four years of marriage. They were united in marriage in Celina on June 13, 1989.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Agee Bray who died at the age of 73, April 12, 2011.

Mrs. Whitaker was a retired Patient Care Technician and retired in 2010 from the former University Medical Center in Lebanon.

She was a member of the Carthage Church of Christ.

Surviving are her two daughters, Tammy Franklin Shoulders, Kelli Franklin Linville and husband Danny all of Hartsville; son, Jeff Franklin and fiancée Beverly Jones of Gallatin; brother, Ricky Agee and wife Martha of Mount Juliet; four grandchildren, Brad Shoulders of Pleasant Shade, Brian Shoulders and wife Kacie of Lafayette, Brooke Jenkins and husband Matt, Chris Franklin and fiancée Tera Hire all of Hartsville; fourteen great-grandchildren.
