Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in a standoff in South Carthage over the weekend.
The incident began when sheriffs department officers Sgt. Robbie Woodard, Sgt. Junior Fields and Deputy Burl Johnson went to serve an arrest warrant on a male subject who resided on Old Lebanon Road on Saturday night.
After a verbal exchange, the male subject drew a weapon, pointing and firing at himself and falling to the ground, but jumped up, pointing the weapon at himself a second time, according to an offense report filed by Sgt. Woodard.
With weapon drawn, Sgt. Woodard began giving male subject commands, according to the officer’s report.
Additional officers arrived as the scene was surrounded.
During the incident, Sheriff Steve Hopper arrived at the scene and activated the sheriff’s department Special Operations Team.
After negotiations, the male subject was taken into custody without further incident.
