Ash selected as new Director of Schools

John Ash was selected by the county’s school board to become the new Smith County Director of Schools.

Ash was selected during Tuesday night’s (March 17) regularly scheduled monthly school board meeting.

The next step in the process includes discussions between Ash and School Board Chairman Tommy Manning and Vice Chairman Scotty Lewis on a contract.

Once a contract agreement has been reached with Ash, it will have to be approved by a majority vote of the full school board before being hired by the school system.

Ash was one of two finalists for the position. The other candidate was Elizabeth Lackey of Powell.

The selection comes after a long search which included a series of meetings and two interview sessions.
