Obit – Mrs. Weibena Hackett McKee

Mrs. Weibena Hackett McKee of Lebanon died peacefully at the age of 91 at her home on Wednesday morning November 20, 2024 under the care of Gentiva Hospice who pronounced her deceased at 7:47 a.m.

Funeral services from the Partlow Funeral Chapel in Lebanon were conducted Saturday afternoon November 23rd at 1 p.m. Burial followed beside her husband at the Bethlehem Cemetery in the Tuckers Cross Roads Community.

She was born Weibena Hackett in the Monoville Community and was the daughter of the late William Winship “Bill” Hackett who died September 28, 1982 at the age 89 and Jewell Mai Smith Hackett who died July 4, 1992 at the age of 92.

Her husband, the late James Garvey McKee, died at the age of 88 on May 20, 2019.

They were also preceded in death by their only son, Jerry Miles McKee who died September 21, 2017 at the age of 46.

In addition to her parents and son she was preceded in death by a brother, Oplis Hackett who died on October 31, 1968 at the age of 33 in a trucking accident in Georgia, by a sister, Spicie Hackett Dozier who died July 21, 2003 at the age of 82, sisters-in-law, Lucy Owen Midgett Hackett who died March 16, 2024 at the age of 83; Margaret Keifer and husband M. L., Mary Frances Crain and husband Durbon, brothers-in-law, Frank McKee and wife Faye, Alvin McKee and wife Billie.

Mr. and Mrs. McKee were longtime owners and operators of the Gordonsville Amoco in Gordonsville and she operated their Handi Market also in Gordonsville.

Those who knew her had memories of what an amazing cook she was and how she enjoyed perfecting family recipes, experimenting with bold new flavors, and teaching her granddaughters, who called her “Memama” how to bake and cook.   

For her, cooking was not just a skill but a way of expressing her love.

While residing in Gordonsville she and James were charter members of the Gordonsville Church of Christ and after moving to Lebanon they placed membership at the College Hills Church of Christ.

Surviving is her daughter, Amy McKee Hamilton, two grandchildren, Keela Johnson and husband Jordan, Zia Maynard and husband Q’Lon; great-grandchildren, Zion, Zander, Zayden, James, and Zeke Johnson; great-granddaughter, Zyla Maynard; brother, Kemmel Hackett; sister-in-law, Susie Hackett Pope; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

The McKee family has requested memorials to the Bethlehem Cemetery, % of Charles Poston, 5247 Big Springs Road, Lebanon, TN 37090 in memory of Weibena McKee.
