County’s school system running low on snow days

By Eddie West

Staff Writer

The school system is running low on what are referred to as “snow days”, due mainly to a cold and icy January.

The 2024-2025 school year began in August of last year with 13 built-in “snow days”.

One of those “snow days” was used as “Professional Development Day” in November (2024) as teachers reported but students did not attend school because of it being Election Day, leaving the school system with 12 days to use for inclement weather.

Prior to the November Election Day, one of those 13 snow days was used on Friday, September 27 (2024), because of the threat of inclement weather.

This left the school system with 11 “snow days” going into the month of January (2025).

School was closed for nine days in January because of icy roads or forecast snow, leaving only two snow days.

School closures:

Schools have been closed the following days during the 2024-2025 school year for inclement weather.

•September 27 (2024)—threat of inclement weather.
