GORDONSVILLE — A history-making and successful inaugural Class 2A season continued for the Gordonsville High football team last Thursday night as Big Blue tallied a playoff-opening 35-7 triumph over the York Institute Dragons.
The 28-point victory was the program’s first 2A playoff win as the Tigers’ record remained unblemished at 11-0. The win was Gordonsville’s 52nd all-time in the playoffs.
York, who had reached the Class 2A semifinals in the last three seasons, saw their 2025 run end with a 1-10 record.
The Tigers pounced out to a 14-0 first half lead after explosive touchdown runs from senior quarterback J Foster and bruising runner Lee Scurlock.
The Dragons lone score of the playoff tilt came on a Joseph Linder one yard touchdown plunge in the second frame.
Gordonsville would respond with 21 unanswered second half points.
Gordonsville’s senior leaders were involved in every score as Foster posted two touchdown rushes and a touchdown pass along with scoring runs from Scurlock and Jemario Williams.
“It is huge and we have talked to them about it throughout the year but it is big time in the playoffs,” said Gordonsville head football coach Stephen Jackson about the Tigers’ senior players. “Our seniors need to play their best ball in order for us to keep going every week. They did that tonight, they wanted to play at home and keep their winning streak alive at home. They did a great job of that tonight.”
