CROSS PLAINS — The Gordonsville High Tigers baseball team remained perfect this postseason and advanced to the Class 1A Sectionals last Saturday — with a 6-0 victory over East Robertson in the Region 4A championship game.
In both of their Region 4A Tourney appearances, the Tigers displayed strong pitching, defense and timely hitting to keep their season alive and claim the program’s third region title.
Gordonsville dispatched the District 8A runner-up in the region semifinals Friday with a 6-1 victory over Jo Byrns. In the region title game, Big Blue captured their first region crown since 2019 with the shutout victory against the 8A champion and 2023 Class 1A runner-up Indians in Cross Plains. Gordonsville improved to 21-9 overall.
“We started this journey in our first meeting — I told these guys that I believed in them. I am really proud of them and they played hard,” said Gordonsville baseball head coach Travis Humes who is in his first season leading GHS baseball.
“First and foremost, it is a testament to our senior leadership,” Humes continued. “We have great seniors that have bought in. Since I have stepped foot on campus, there has been an enormous support from our staff, from our administration, our players and from our fans. This is a really great place to be and I love it. I am so happy for these guys and they have earned the rite to be region champs.”
