The Gordonsville High Tigerettes, back-to-back Class 1A softball champions, saw their pitching ace and top hitter Kailey Plumlee net the coveted Gatorade Tennessee Softball Player of the year honor.
Plumlee, the University of Tennessee softball commit, was named the award recipient on Friday, June 7.
The junior, who holds the career and single season strikeout records at GHS, has been a key piece of the Tigerettes 2023 and 2024 state title runs. Plumlee has powered the Big Blue pitching staff since her eighth grade season and has evolved into the squad’s top threat at the plate.
“It has been a very good week for our program and several of our kids,” said Gordonsville High head softball coach Jonathan Bush. “Some of our girls have been named to All-State and All-Midstate teams. Our girls are being recognized Monday (June 10) at the Middle Tennessee High School Sports Awards show and Kailey being recognized as Gatorade Player of the Year — a very prestigious award.”
“I told her that it was something that she will always have and be able to look back on — knowing she was voted the best softball player in the state. It is huge and great for our program — and great for her.”
Plumlee is the second player in the program’s history to receive the prestigious recognition. Cori Jennings received the award in 2014. Jennings, who would also be a collegiate stand out at Middle Tennessee State University, helped guide the Tigerettes to their first Class 1A state championship in 2014 after a runner-up finish in the 2013 season.
