BAXTER — The Smith County High Owls football team played their second straight game against a No.1 ranked team last Friday night when they traveled to Baxter.
The 6-0 Upperman Bees sat atop Class 4A in the statewide rankings as last week the Owls played the 2A top-ranked squad East Robertson.
The Bees stormed to 7-0 by scoring 43 first half points en route to a 43-13 victory in Homecoming.
Upperman had 236 total yards in the first two quarters as they were very efficient on the offensive end as they scored five touchdowns on 11 total offensive plays.
The Bees had to move only 203 yards in that 11 play stretch which bolted them to a big lead on their way to victory. The clock ran in the second half due to the “mercy rule” as the Owls added two touchdowns during that stretch.
Smith Co. fell to 1-6 overall and must get one win in their final three Region 3-2A games to make the playoffs.
