By Shea Haile Courier Sports

GORDONSVILLE — The Gordonsville High School community honored an important figure in GHS history on November 8.

Prior to Big Blue’s first round playoff game against Chattanooga Prep, Gordonsville High School dedicated their weight facility to long time coach and mentor Stanley Wills.

Coach Wills career spanned from 1970 to 2000 as the 1966 Gordonsville High graduate guided a multitude of programs including football, basketball and softball at both the high school and middle school levels.

“I am so thankful that we were able to honor Coach Stanley Wills, by naming the weight room Stanley Wills Weight Facility,” said Gordonsville High School principal Mac Petty, who also served as a  football and baseball coach at GHS. “Coach Wills had such an impact on GHS for over 30 years, whether it be in the classroom or on the playing field. He helped build our football program into what it is today, he coached basketball and he started the school’s first softball program.”

Petty continued, “He took over the football team in a huge moment of need and provided stability back to the program.”
