Lady Owls 43-15 second half run leads to impressive rivalry win over Gordonsville

CARTHAGE — The county’s two high school girls basketball teams met for the first time in an eight day stretch last Friday night at Bill Landreth Gym in Carthage. 

Smith Co. had won four straight games entering the contest and were off to a 5-2 start. 

The Tigerettes, under first year head coach Terri Brock, were 2-2 as they entered last Friday night’s contest.

The game was a close affair in the first half as Gordonsville succumbed to the Lady Owls’ pressure in the final two quarters with the Lady owls securing a 79-45 win. 

The hosts went on a 43-15 run in the game’s last 16 minutes to notch their fifth straight victory and improve to 6-2. 

Emry Jones led the Black-and-Gold with 20 points as 16 of those came in the first half. Karly Ramsey was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor for 18 points while freshman posts Kaylee Dixon tossed in 10. Dacey Claywell tallied eight points while Chloe Collins scored seven. Catie Belle McCarter registered half dozen points while Chloe Powell tossed in four. Hailey Overstreet, Kellie King and Makenna White completed the scoring with two points each.
