Obit – Mr. William “Buddy” Moore
Mr. William “Buddy” Moore age 83 of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee and a longtime resident of the Smith Bend Community in Jackson County was pronounce deceased at the Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga at 4:48 E.S.T. Tuesday morning December 10, 2024 where he was last admitted December 8th suffering from a brain aneurysm.
Mr. Moore was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where his funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon December 13th at 1 p.m. Mr. Moore’s close friend, Eld. Stephen Brooks, will officiate and burial followed in the Moore family lot in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
He was born William Mitchel Moore in the Watervale Community on August 15, 1941 and was the only son of two children born to the late Sam Mitchell Moore who died at the age of 85 on January 2, 1999 and Drucilla (Drusa) Inez Glass Moore who died at the age of 77 on November 30, 1995.
His only sibling, a sister Margaret Ann Lynn Moore, preceded him in death on September 7, 2010 at the age of 72.
Mr. Moore was a member of the 1959 graduating class at Smith County High School. His major was foreign languages. He was a member of both the Latin and Spanish clubs, was in the band all four years participating in the dance band his senior year, and was in the Spring Festival all four years. The statement of remembrance of the annual staff of Buddy was; “I have seen better days”’
He was united in marriage at the Fairview Baptist Church in Lebanon on December 4, 1970 to the Town of Weiner in Poinsettia County, Arkansas native, the former Doris Faye Gill.
Mr. Moore retired from then Textron Aviation in Nashville in August of 2000 with twenty on years of service.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He proudly served our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis Washington near Tacoma, Washington on January 20, 1966. This base is now known as Joint Base Lewis-McCord. He was inducted in Nashville, Tennessee on January 21, 1964.
Before having been discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th class, he was assigned to the 278th Signal Corp. as a telegraph operator.
He was discharged from his reserve status obligation on January 20, 1970.
Surviving in addition to his wife Doris, of six days following their fifty fourth wedding anniversary, is their daughter, Michele Moore Dowlen and husband Michael and their two sons Zachary and Andrew Dowlen all of Camden, South Carolina, a son, Mitchell Moore of Johnson City, Tennessee.
