Obit – Mr. Lynn A Thornton
Mr. Lynn A. Thornton passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, December 7, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN at the age of 73.
Mr. Thornton’s remains were at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. In accordance with his wishes, his body was to be cremated. Cremation was performed by Cumberland Family Services in Algood, TN. Interment will be in section four beside his mother and father at Ridgewood Cemetery in Carthage.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be held at a place and time to be determined.
Born Lynn Allan Thornton on August 19, 1951 he was the son of Edith Love Moss Thornton, who died at the age of 97 in 2019, and John Fred Thornton, who died at the age of 81 in 1998. He was the grandson of the late Cora Russell Moss and Letcher Moss,Sr. who was for many years the co-owner and operator, with the late Raymond Upchurch of the Caney Fork Farm.
He is survived by his sisters Linda Thornton Archer of Baxter,TN, and Nancy Moss Thornton Waterhouse (Ted) of Bethpage,TN.
Raised in the Episcopal Church, in recent years he identified with the Anglican Faith.
Lynn grew up in Nashville,TN and graduated from Hillsboro High School (Class of 1969). He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, Peabody College and Nashville State Technical Institute for his further education.
A multi-talented individual, he was known for his knowledge and innovation across a wide range of subjects. He had experience in fields from Food Service Management to Building Design and Construction to Automobile Manufacturing Tool Design to Video Production Studio Engineering and IT Support.
A lifelong learner, his interests included Ancient History, Military History, music and musical instruments, firearms and gunsmithing, the martial arts, Information Technology, Chemistry, Physics, fishing and cooking.
His past employment included the companies Danner Foods, Cordis Dow Corp., Buckland Building Systems, General Motors Corvette Plant, and Dell Computer Gold Customer Support. Most recently, he was an Institutional Food Service Designer with Fixtur World, Cookeville, TN.
Lynn was known in recent years as “Captain Liberty” on the Coach Clay & I-70 Show on the Patriots Soapbox internet platform. He was a regular co-host and known for his vast knowledge and love of his cats. He had many fans and friends who will miss him greatly.
