Obit – Mrs. Jane “Nana” Martin
Mrs. Jane “Nana” Martin age 77 of South Carthage and a longtime resident of the McClures Bend Community was pronounced deceased at 3:07 p.m. Monday afternoon July 14, 2025 shortly after arrival at the Vanderbilt-Wilson County Hospital E. R. from the Quality Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon where she had resided since March of this year.
Mrs. Martin was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her family received friends on Thursday morning July 17th. She will then be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood and inurnment will be private at a later date in the Garden of the Cross at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
She was one of eight children of the late A. V. Huddleston who died at the age of 79 on March 27, 2000 and Flossie Dimple Jones Huddleston who died October 30, 1994 at the age of 67 and was born Frances Jane Huddleston in the Silver Point Community of Putnam County on March 19, 1948.
A sister preceded her in death, Chistine Huddleston Cassity who died May 18, 2014 and a brother, Dwight Huddleston who died May 29, 2022 at the age of 81.
At the Carthage Church of God on November 24, 1967, she was united in marriage to Defeated Creek Community native, Roger Wayne Martin. The wedding ceremony was officiated by then church pastor, Rev. Barney Hurst.
She formerly was employed at the Carthage Shirt Corporation and the Key Hollow Corporation, but for the last several years had been a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
She was a member of the Carthage Church of God in South Carthage.
Surviving in addition to her husband of almost fifty-eight years is a daughter Tawana Martin Brown and husband Michael of the Defeated Creek Community; son, Dewayne Martin and wife Stacey of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Jessica Hula and husband Michael of the Hickman Community, Maegan Key and husband Noah, Serenity Brown all of the Defeated Creek Community, Zach Martin and wife Chander of Murfreesboro, Ethan Martin and wife Cynthia of Alexandria; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Madelyn, Michael and Lucas Hula, Ashton Key, Karleigh Overstreet, and Mabel Martin; four sisters, Phyllis Huddleston Griffith and husband Charles of Alexandria, Mai Huddleston Clenney and husband Tom of Lebanon, Margie Huddleston Martin and husband Donnie of the McClures Bend Community, Tracy Huddleston Kyle and husband Waylon of the Temperance Hall Community; brother, Rickey Huddleston of the Sullivans Bend Community.
