Obit – Mrs. Rebekah Lee Bass Carlson-Medley

Rebekah Lee “Becky” Carlson-Medley, age 87, passed away on August 1. Becky had a full and joyful life and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Becky was born on September 15, 1937, to James Clyde and Martha Frances Steele Bass. Raised in Gordonsville, TN, she graduated from Gordonsville High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Intermont College.
In 1957, she married Richard “Dick” Carlson and shared the next 37 years in marriage before his passing in 1994. Living in Tampa they raised their daughter, Caryn, and son, Mike. While Caryn and Mike were young, she went back to school and received a Masters degree in Speech Pathology, after which she served as the Director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic at the University of South Florida before her retirement. She reunited with and remarried her high school sweetheart, Ted Medley, in 2004. They spent over 20 years together, enjoying happy times with the extended Carlson-Medley family as well as traveling extensively throughout the United States and to 51 countries prior to Ted’s passing in 2024.
Becky is survived by her daughter, Caryn, son, Mike and wife Dawn, grandchildren Caitlin, Tyler, and Nathan, great-granddaughter Isla, brother in-law, Mark Medley and wife Candice, son-in-law, Philip and wife Juanita, and other dear relatives in the Carlson-Medley family.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Dick and husband Ted, and parents Clyde and Martha Bass.
The Carlson family wish to express their deep gratitude to those who cared for and loved her during her later years, including Dr. White and her staff, all those at the Beach House, and her caretakers and friends Pat and Linley.
