GORDONSVILLE — The first ever sanctioned TSSAA (Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association) girls flag football state tournaments will include the Gordonsville High School Lady Tigers (16-1).
Big Blue clinched a spot in the Class A eight team tournament. The girls flag football state tournament games will be hosted at Murfreesboro’s Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.
The Class A participants will battle in pool play on Thursday, May 14th before bracket play begins on Friday, May 15th.
Big Blue’s pool play features match ups against Coalfield (2:30), Pearl Cohn (5:30) and Jackson North Side (7:00). All three contests will be played on field one at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.
Quarterfinal play begins Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the semifinal round following at 1:00 p.m. and the Class A title game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Other schools participating in the eight team event are: Coalfield, Creek Wood, Jackson North Side, MASE, Merrol Hyde, Pearl Cohn and Silverdale.
The Lady Tigers secured their spot in the state tournament with an 8-2 Region 3-1A championship victory over Stone Memorial last Saturday in Crossville. The win avenged the Lady Tigers’ lone loss of the season as the Panthers snared a 6-0 victory in their regular season clash.
Gordonsville’s semifinal victory came against Van Buren County in a 39-12 victory at Turney Ford Field on May 5th.
In their first home playoff triumph, Big Blue snared their third win of the season over cross-county nemesis Smith County by a 27-7 final in the quarterfinal round.
