GHS VOLLEYBALL GREAT SIGNS WITH VOL STATE PROGRAM

GORDONSVILLE — Last fall, the Gordonsville High School Volleyball team enjoyed their most successful run in program history. One of the senior stars in the Tigerettes run to a Class A runner-up finish was middle hitter Derionna Bell.
The All-State and All-District selection Bell now has the opportunity to continue her volleyball career at Gallatin’s Volunteer State Community College.
The three-sport competitor at Gordonsville explained how she was introduced to the Lady Pioneers volleyball program.
“I was not planning on playing volleyball at college but I found out Vol State was beginning their team this year so I tried to contact them and get people to help me,” said Bell. “So I contacted their coach, began playing club ball and the coach came to tournaments.”
Bell’s head basketball coach at GHS, a program that made their first state appearance since 1999 earlier this year, also played a role in the Vol State connection.
“Coach (Terri) Brock had told the basketball coach that I played volleyball too so the coached talked.”
“I am really excited to make a lot of friends and to meet my new teammates,” said Bell.
Bell discussed being a key part on multiple Big Blue teams that made deep postseason runs including the recently introduced flag football program.
“It has been great and once we made it to state and we had fun. I was just excited,” said Bell.
