Obit – Mr. Michael Walters Jr.
Mr. Michael Walters Jr. of Smyrna went into cardiac arrest at the age of 64 at the Altus Community Healthcare Emergency Department in Amarillo, Texas and was pronounced deceased at 8:18 p.m. Tuesday evening June 30, 2026.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon July 8th at 3 p.m. Eld. Roger Grisham will officiate. Burial will be in the Walters family lot in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
He was one of two sons born to the late Mecklenburg, North Carolina native Michael Earl Walters Sr. who died July 27, 1984 at the age of 52 and South Carthage native, the late Joyce Etheldene Proffitt Walters who died on September 1, 2002 at the age of 67 and was born Michael Earl Walters Jr. in Houton in Harris County, Texas on July 14, 1961.
Mr. Walters was a 1979 graduate of Smith County High School where he played football all four years and was a member of the “C” Club.
At the Lynnwood Pentecostal Church, near the Tuckers Cross Roads Community, he was united in marriage to the former Christina Lynne Nicklas.
Mr. Walters was a crane operator for W & W Crane and Rigging Corporation and was operating a crane in Amarillo on a high-rise AI Data Center construction project.
He was saved as a young man and was a member of the Lynwood Pentecostal Church. Surviving in addition to his wife Christina, of only ten years, is his son, Cory Walters and wife Stephanie of the Brush Creek Community, his daughter Koltyn Walters of Mount Juliet; brother, Jim Walters and wife Bonnie of Cody, Wyoming; bonus children, Lauren Fleming and husband Jason of Manchester, Di Lani Cassity and husband Jose Gonzales of Smyrna; fur baby, Cain; eight grandchildren.
