GORDONSVILLE — For the third straight season, the Gordonsville High Tigers football team has started their regular season with three straight victories. Last Friday night, Big Blue moved to 3-0 in 2026 with a dominant 43-7 victory over the visiting Fayetteville Tigers at Turney Ford Field.
Big Blue built a 35-7 first half lead including a 22-0 second quarter blitz.
The visiting Tigers posted the game’s first score but Gordonsville followed with 43 unanswered points.
“I thought our kids did a great job,” said Gordonsville High head football coach Stephen Jackson. “They took the first series and went to the house with it. It takes a minute to get used to the team speed that they have. I thought our kids settled in and did a great job.”
Jackson continued, “Getting a safety and a ‘scoop and score’, that is something that we have been trying to hound on is creating turnovers. I thought defensively they did a great job and offensively — I thought we a did a great of getting explosive plays which is huge.”
Fayetteville fell to 0-3 overall as three lost fumbles led to a pair of Big Blue scores.
Another Fayetteville mishap came on a mishandled snap that led to a GHS safety.
Gordonsville had their best offensive performance thus far posting 264 total yards and five touchdowns.
GHS featured the ground game as the unit posted 183 yards on 29 attempts — equaling six yards per carry.
Junior Cam Stott led the rushing attack with 62 yards on four carries including a seven yard touchdown rush. Classmate Kaiden Mason added 56 yards on seven attempts — highlighted by a two yard touchdown. Turner Bucher added a 14 yard touchdown rush while posting 34 yards on five rushes.
Stott added to his offensive breakout with 45 yards on three receptions to lead the Big Blue receiving corps including a 24 yard touchdown reception that began the scoring for GHS.
Junior quarterback Cruz Frye connected on 10-of-14 passes for 81 yards including two passing touchdowns and one interception on a deep shot.
“They keep up with the next man up mentality,” said Jackson. “Caden Potter did a great job coming in. We had to get our slot receivers more involved in the run game and they did a great job.”
“We try to see how many people we can have to touch the ball on a Friday night that way one person is not taking the load all game long. We are excited about those guys getting a chance. They support each other and they want each other to be successful on the field.”
