Carthage leaders eye renovation of city hall

The town of Carthage has taken a step forward in the potential rehabilitation of the James A. Clay Municipal Building (city hall/police station).

City officials are soliciting “statements of qualifications from professional architectural/engineering firms to provide expertise, guidance and preliminary design services for the town of Carthage’s proposed Town Hall Building Rehabilitation”, according to a public notice published in the Courier.

At present time, the city’s council appears to be leaning in the direction of renovation and reconfiguration  of the existing building which houses the town’s administrative offices and police department.

This comes after years of searching for a new location for city hall.

During the search for a new location, a number of sites have been debated by the city’s council. Making the search difficult is a shortage of available sites to build a new facility outside of the city’s floodplain.  

Outlined in the public notice is a general description of rehabilitation work needed for the project. This includes HVAC upgrades, complete electrical system replacement, rehabilitation of interior office space and renovation of existing storage areas for office space.

The public notice notes “responding firms will be evaluated and ranked in order of their experience, qualification and project approach”.
