School system’s CTE building named

By Eddie West Staff Writer

The county’s newest education facility has been named by the school board.

Located on Industrial Drive in Carthage, the building has been named the Smith County CTE Center.

Once open, the renovated building will be a technical skills instructional facility.

At one time home to Save-A-Lot Grocery Store, the building has been under renovation for several months.

Multiple trade skills are expected to be taught at the facility such as electronics, robotics, HVAC repair, mechanics, nursing, construction work, etc.

The building will include classrooms and labs as well as office space.

Upon graduation, school officials say students will be workforce ready in various high paying occupations, offering an alternative to a college degree.
