GORDONSVILLE — Two of the state’s elite small school prep football programs clashed last Friday night at Turney Ford Field  as the Gordonsville High Tigers  hosted East Tennessee 1A elite the Coalfield Yellow Jackets.

Big Blue trailed 7-3 at halftime but turned to a devastating and effective rushing attack to post two second half scores and capture a 17-13 season opening victory.

“I thought we did a great job and played extremely hard tonight which our kids always play hard,” said Gordonsville football head coach Stephen Jackson. “We never see our kids not play hard. We had some adversity tonight and we kept fighting through it. That is something to expect in a ball game against a good caliber team — it is always going to be a knock down, drag out kind of game. That is what it was tonight.”

With the four point win, Gordonsville claimed their fourth straight triumph in the series.
