Obit – Mrs. Nova Toney
Mrs. Nova Toney, of Hartsville departed this life to be with her heavenly father at 4:50 a.m. Monday morning August 24, 2026 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she was admitted August 20th.
Eld. Junior Dickerson officiated at the 1 p.m. Friday afternoon August 28th funeral service from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed beside her husband and infant son in the Toney family lot in the East section of the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
She was born Nova Frances Kennedy in Hartsville on February 8, 1938 and was the eldest of six children of the late Herman Allen Kennedy who died November 5, 1982 at the age of 66 and Artie May Crowell Kennedy who died December 13, 2006 at the age of 91.
On September 15, 1962, she was united in marriage to Pleasant Shade Community native Phocian Thomas (Big Boy) Toney who preceded her in death on August 28, 2006 at the age of 68 following almost forty-four years of marriage.
They suffered the loss of a son, Phocian Thomas Toney Jr., who died at birth on December 22, 1964.
Mrs. Toney was saved as a young girl and at the time of her death she was a member of the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a former employee of the Hartsville Garment Company.
Surviving Mrs. Toney are her two daughters, Mary Frances Toney Smith of Hartsville, Julie Toney Holland and husband Jamie of Lebanon; her niece and caregiver Jennifer Sullivan and husband Eric of the Cato Community, caregiver, Stephanie Boyd of Lebanon; sister, Betty Ray also of the Cato Community; four grandchildren, Alex Smith of Gallatin, Michelle Smith of Hartsville, Astra Webb of Morristown, step-grandson, Robert Holland of Lebanon.
