Obit – Ms. Amy Young Underwood
Ms. Amy Young Underwood of Gordonsville was discovered unresponsive by her daughter Beth at Amy’s Stewarts Bend Lane home on Monday afternoon August 24, 2026. At 5:06 p.m., the Gordonsville ambulance Station 2 was dispatched to the home and after transport to Highpoint – Health Riverview with Ascension St. Thomas Emergency Department, she was pronounced deceased at 6:31 p.m. at the age of 55.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Monday morning August 31st at 11 a.m. with Eld. Terry Ray officiating. Burial followed near her parents in the Gazebo Garden at the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
Ms. Underwood was the only child of the late Missionary Baptist minister & pastor, Eld. Dennis George Young, who died January 2, 2018 at the age of 67 and Linda Joyce Postell Young who died December 5, 2018 also at the age of 67 and was born Amy Denise Young in Andrews in Cherokee County, North Carolina on February 1, 1971.
Ms. Underwood was a 1989 graduate at Smith County High School where she as a member of the Future Homemakers of America the V. I. C. A. class her sophomore and junior year.
Ms. Underwood was saved at a young age and was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Gallatin.
At the time of her death, she was employed as the manager of the Valvoline Lube store in Mount Juliet, a position she had held with that corporation for over five years.
Surviving is her three children, Chris Underwood and wife Danielle, Chelsea Underwood and fiancée Shaun Horton, Beth Franklin and husband Stephen all of the Popes Hill Community; six grandchildren, Skylar Underwood, Rylan Underwood, Madison Presley, Tagen Horton, Ryker Horton, and Carter Franklin; father of the children Joe Underwood and wife Lorie of Riddleton.
