CARTHAGE — One of the Upper Cumberland’s most iconic gridiron rivalries took center stage last Friday night in Carthage as the Gordonsville High Tigers and Smith County High Owls added another chapter to their storied series.

Big Blue continued their run of dominance with a 35-0 victory over the Owls — their third straight in the series. In the Tigers’ last three meetings with the Owls, Gordonsville has outscored the Black-and-Gold by a combined 84-13 total.

The three game winning streak is Gordonsville’s first in the series since Big Blue won the 1984, 1985 and 1986 meetings.

Gordonsville concluded their regular season with a 9-1 record and capped an undefeated run in Region 4-2A as Big Blue claimed the region crown for the second straight season.

The Tigers enter the postseason with combined 21-2 record over the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The Smith Co. Owls saw their 2026 season come to a close as the squad dropped to 2-8. The Owls missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 after going 0-4 in region play.

Gordonsville posted their fourth shutout of the year as the Tigers’ defense closed the regular season with three straight shutouts. GHS out-gained the Black-and-Gold 277-52 in the rivalry clash.

“I thought our kids did a great job this week of coming to work and understanding what we wanted to do defensively,” said Gordonsville head football coach Stephen Jackson. “They executed real well. They ran to the football and tackled well tonight. I am excited for them.”

Big Blue featured a balanced attack as the visitors posted 153 yards on the ground and 124 yards via the passing attack.
