Obit – Mr. Geoff Scanlon Sr.

Mr. Geoff Scanlon Sr. died peacefully at the family farm home on Whitefield Lane in the Rock City Community at 5 a.m. Friday morning August 14, 2020 at the age of 84. He was pronounced deceased at 6:52 a.m. by Kindred Hospice of Cookeville who had lovingly assisted the family in his final days of care.

Mr. Scanlon was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and was to be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. There are no services planned in the United States.

Mr. Scanlon was born Geoffrey (pronounced Jeffrey) Joseph Scanlon in Bansha, Ireland on October 21, 1935 and was one of seven children of the late Michael and Jane Scanlon, both of whom preceded him in death.

The Scanlons relocated to Anderson, Indiana in 1978 from the Country of England and in 1986 moved to the Rock City Community, first living in the Rawls Creek Community before purchasing their Whitefield Lane farm home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Metcalfe Scanlon in 2007.

Mr. Scanlon was a retired brick mason.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, with whom he made his home, Geoff Jr. and Becky Scanlon of the Rock City Community; three other children, Phillip Scanlon and wife Monica of Greenville, South Carolina, Robert Scanlon of Nashville, Tom Scanlon and wife Cindy of Chattanooga; six siblings, Pat Scanlon and Peter Scanlon both of Bansha Ireland, Phyllis Doody of London, England, Breda Scanlon, Ann Sullivan and Joan Ferris all of Bansha Ireland.
