Obit – Mr. William “Bill” Lasser

With his daughter, son-in-law and their three children at his bedside, a Hiwassee Community resident, Mr. William “Bill” Lasser, was pronounced deceased at 8:35 p.m. Saturday evening September 19, 2026 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he was admitted from Highpoint Health-Riverview with Ascension St. Thomas in Carthage on September 3, 2026.

Mr. Lasser was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. He will be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. No visitation or services are planned locally.

He was the third of six children, three daughters and three sons, and was born William Harry Matthew Lasser on January 31, 1943 in Hamilton in Mercer County, New Jersey to the late 

Harry Gust Lassser who died October 29, 1959 at the age of 40 and Helen Juanita Carney Lasser who died January 26, 1984 at the age of 66.

Mr. Lasser was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Lasser Thomas and Phillis Lasser Gelentser and by a brother, Richard Aubrey Lasser Sr. who died at the age of 67 on July 19, 2023.

His loving wife, Sulla Ann Barnwell Lasser, preceded him in death on June 18, 2022 at the age of 72.

With over ten years of employment in the meat and produce departments, he retired in 2022 from the Wal-Mart in Lebanon.

Mr. Lasser was of the Baptist faith.

The family relocated from West Virginia to Smith County in 1988.

He is survived by a daughter, Amber Edmonds and her husband, Elmwood Community native, Henry Edmonds and their three children, Ella, Matthew and Archer Edmonds all of Crestview, Florida; Christopher Phillips and wife Katie and their children, Adrian Alvarez, Ethan, Madison, and Hudson Phillips, all of Charleston, South Carolina; sister, Winnie Lasser Locket of Palm Gove, Florida; brother, Harry Lasser III. and wife Edith of Smithville.
