Obit – Mrs. Loneta Chaffin Bains
Mrs. Loneta Chaffin Bains age 98, a homemaker of the Hiwassee Community departed her life on earth to enter into her secured heavenly home on Wednesday evening September 23, 2026 at 6:45 p.m. at the Pavilion in Lebanon where she made her home.
Graveside services and interment were conducted on Sunday afternoon September 27th at 4 p.m. from the Bethlehem Cemetery in the Tuckers Cross Roads Community with her longtime minister, Stan Stevenson officiating. Burial followed beside her husband of sixty-six years.
She was born Loneta Marian Chaffin on July 3, 1928 in Smith County and was one of eight children, five daughters and three sons of the late James Ridley Chaffin who died October 2, 1984 at the age of 86 and Roxie Bellezora Pippin Chaffin who died August 31, 1998 at the age of 98.
On October 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Hiwassee Community native Howard Donald Bains, a Marine veteran of World War II, who preceded her in death at the age of 95 on October 23, 2018, lacking three days before their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary.
Siblings preceding her in death were four sisters, Dorothy Irene Chaffin who died April 4, 1946 at the age of 26, Evelyn Chaffin Bush who died August 9, 2019 at the age of 97, Mildred Chaffin Woodard who died in 2006 at the age of 82, Lois Chaffin Tomlinson who died in 2022 at the age of 95, Glenn Chaffin who died April 17, 1991 at the age of 70, Dalton Louis Chaffin who died July 27, 2024 at the age of 94, and James Donald Chaffin who died September 17, 1964 at the age of 26.
Mrs. Loneta and Mr. Howard Donald were two of the most faithful members of the Rome Church of Christ and as long as health permitted were present each time there was a service of any kind, being it Sunday worship, Sunday and Wednesday Bible Study, Vacation Bible School or Gospel meetings.
Surviving are her two children, Pamela (Pam) Bains Billington and husband Tom of the Hiwassee Community, Phillip (Phil) Bains also of the Hiwassee Community and who endured the loss of his wife, Joyce Elaine Bennett Bains who died at the age of 69 on March 25, 2026.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kristina Billington Kirby and husband Daniel of the Gladeville Community, Daniel Bains and wife Lesa, Susan Bains Reeder and husband Jeremy all of South Carthage, Julianne Billington Thomason of Lynnville, TN; ten great-grandchildren, Brayden and Austin Kirby, Bains, Boone, and Jovie Thomason, Kendall Bains, Conner and Braden Hughes, Hannah Clayton and Evie Reeder, sister-in-law, Patty Wilburn Chaffin.
