Obit – Mr. Jay Sanders
Mr. Jay Sanders, of the Elmwood Community, was pronounced deceased at the Riverview Regional Medical Center E. R. in Carthage at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon June 4, 2021 after being discovered unresponsive at his Cookeville Highway home by family members. Mr. Sanders was 53.
Eld. Terry Ray, assisted by Eld. Steven Ray, officiated at the 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon June 9th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Sanders Family lot in the Garden of Everlasting Life at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
He was the son of J. T. Sanders Sr. and Melba Dean Harpe Sanders of the Elmwood Community and was born J. T. Sanders Jr. at the former McFarland Hospital in Lebanon on August 23, 1967.
Mr. Sanders was a 1987 graduate of Smith County High School.
He was saved at the age of seven under the preaching of then pastor Eld. Walter Deweese and was baptized the same day into the full fellowship of the South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Sanders was formerly employed by the Smith County Sheriff’s office and was last employed with the Tennessee Department of Corrections as a transport security guard.
Surviving in addition to his parents is his daughter, Miranda Sanders of Lewisburg, Tennessee and a brother, Chuck Sanders also of the Elmwood Community, several aunts and uncles on the Sanders side of the family.
