An 11 year old boy was killed and three injured in a tragic single vehicle accident which occurred on Interstate 40, Thursday morning.

The victim was thrown from a 2003 Subaru Forrester van onto the interstate roadway where he was run over by a tractor-trailer truck rig. A second juvenile male, age 10, was also thrown onto the roadway and injured.

According to a preliminary Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) report, “The van was traveling west on Interstate 40 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway into a ditch line where it struck an embankment, causing it to overturn at the 251.4 mile marker. The two male juveniles were ejected from the van during the rollover event and thrown into the roadway. One of the juvenile males was struck by a tractor-trailer truck. The vehicle came to rest on it’s top in the ditch-line.”

Meanwhile, the preliminary accident report does not include a possible cause for the accident.

The report confirmed the 11 year old juvenile male died from injuries and the 10 year old was listed as injured. Both youth were from North Carolina. Identification of the juveniles was not released.
