By Shea Haile Courier Sports

SOUTH CARTHAGE — The Gordonsville High Tigerettes were crowned District 7A tournament champions last Friday night after a 10-0 victory over the Clay County Lady Bulldogs at Crump Paris Park.

The Tigerettes and Bulldogs squared off for the championship after Clay Co.’s 12-0 elimination bracket victory over Red Boiling Springs. The 7A title game was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was delayed two days because of field conditions.

With the triumph, the Tigerettes improved to 26-5 overall and 11-0 against 7A competition as the unit claimed the five inning, run-rule victory.

Big Blue junior and circle ace Kailey Plumlee turned in another clutch performance for Gordonsville — tallying 15 strikeouts in the five inning affair. Plumlee only allowed one hit and overcame six walks.

Clay Co. had two base runners to reach in four of the five innings — but Plumlee shut the door each time with strikeouts.

Gordonsville’s power was on display at the plate as the unit blasted three home runs and four doubles. The Big Blue bats ignited in the fifth inning with seven runs — leading to the 10-0 victory.

Makenize Herron led the unit with three hits as the junior went 3-for-3 at the plate — including a solo homer and two doubles. Abby Brinkley added two hits including a double while Plumlee, Kelcie Watts, Bailey Stewart, Callie Dillard and Kelsey Haley adding one hit apiece. Dillard and Plumlee each had two-run homers while Watts posted a double.
