Obit – Mr. Steven Shores
Mr. Steven Shores of Hermitage was pronounced deceased at the age of 66 at 1:28 p.m. Monday afternoon May 20, 2024 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville where he was admitted May 14th following a fractured hip and a stroke suffered in February. He had been residing with his daughter and son-in-law at their Murfreesboro home.
Mr. Shores was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral home and his funeral services were scheduled for Friday morning May 24th at the Hermitage Funeral Home on Shute Lane in Hermitage.
Burial followed beside his wife and daughter in the Garden of Memories at the Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Shores was one of two children, a son and a daughter, of the late Tanglewood Community native Ernest Lee “Bud” Shores who died December 14, 2010 at the age of 81 and Helms Bend Community native Jewel Inez Armistead Shores who died March 16, 2013 also at the age of 81 and was born Steven Lee Shores at the former Baptist Hospital in Nashville on September 13, 1957.
He was a 1975 graduate of McGavock High School in Donelson.
At the home of the late Eld. Howard Taylor in Madison, then pastor of the McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church, he was united in marriage to Nashville native, the former Debbie Delane Grubbs The ceremony was performed on July 9, 1976. Eld. Taylor’s wife Juanita Wilburn Taylor and their daughter, Sarah Taylor, were the witnesses.
The Shores were preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Christine Shores who died at the age of 37 on February 21, 2015, who died as a result of spinal cord injuries received in a back surgery, which yielded her a paraplegic.
At the time of Mr. and Mrs. Shores death they were members of the Gladeville Baptist Church.
Mr. Shores was a service technician for Q. S. I. Inc. of Nashville who installed and maintained alarms and ATM’s for banking institutions. He retired in 2022 following the death of his wife.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Shores Doyle and Chris of Murfreesboro; grandson, Kellen Doyle also of Murfreesboro and a sister, Carol Shores Crone and husband Kevin of Bethpage.
