Dean Hill tragedy averted

A pleasure excursion aboard a single engine airplane went wrong over the skies of Smith County Tuesday morning.
However, depending upon one’s perspective, the day couldn’t have turned out better for the two people aboard the aircraft following an emergency landing in a well manicured field in the northeastern most section of the county.
The two, a male pilot and female passenger, were en route from Murfreesboro to Ohio “to have a meal” when the single engine airplane experienced engine trouble, according to a spokesperson with the Jackson County EMS.
The pilot made an emergency landing in a field in the vicinity of Gladdice Road at the intersection of Dean Hill Road and Billy Hollow Road on the Southern Cross Farm, often referred to by locals as the Holliman Farm.
The emergency landing took place around 8:57 a.m. (June 25).
