No major problems detected with latest bridge inspection

By Eddie West Staff Writer

There were no major deficiencies detected in the latest structural inspection of the Cordell Hull Bridge.

However, the latest inspection work will be reviewed by Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) in order to determine if there are any areas of future concern.

“Contractors completed the inspection of the Cordell Hull Bridge and there were no issues found during the inspection that require immediate action,” according to a TDOT spokesperson. “The report will be sent to TDOT structures for evaluation.”

The timeline for “structures” to evaluate the inspection report is unclear.

The routine bridge inspection took place during the last week of June and the structure has remained open since.

If any major problems had been detected at that time the bridge would have likely remained closed.

Because of its age, routine inspections of the structure is always accompanied by uncertainty.
