Reckless homicide charges filed in Rawls Creek death

A shooting death which occurred during an altercation in the Rawls Creek community has resulted in a Smith County woman facing reckless homicide charges, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

Trena Gay Roberts, 49, Rawls Creek Road, was indicted by the county’s grand jury for reckless homicide and (two counts) of aggravated assault.

Evidence in the case was presented to the grand jury by a TBI agent on Monday (August 5) of last week.

Charges stems from a domestic incident.

“At the request of Fifteenth Judicial District Attorney General Jason Lawson, TBI agents were requested to investigate the January 30 (2024) shooting death of Theodore Taylor, 21, (no address listed), at a home on Rawls Creek Road. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information Trena Roberts caused Taylor, her son, to commit an assault against two men by use or display of a deadly weapon and caused one of those men to recklessly kill Taylor”, according to information provided by the TBI.
