Obit – Mrs. Helen Overstreet
Mrs. Helen Overstreet, an 88 year-old homemaker of the Horseshoe Bend Community, departed this earthly walk for her heavenly journey at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday evening August 13, 2024 with family by her bedside. She had been a resident at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center since August 8th while receiving rehabilitation from a fall.
Mrs. Overstreet was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where Bro. Floyd Massey officiated her 11 a.m. Saturday morning August 17th funeral services. Interment followed beside her husband J. D. in the Overstreet Family Cemetery in the Conditt Hollow in the Elmwood Community.
Mrs. Overstreet was born Helen Lee Blair in the Elmwood Community on August 2, 1936 and was one of two children of the late Georgie Blair who died at the age of 85 on April 10, 1993 and Gertie Mainell Bush Blair who died at the age of 77 on January 9, 1989.
Her daughter, Tammy Lee Overstreet Gibbs preceded her in death on December 2, 2023 at the age of 58 and Mrs. Overstreet’s grandson, Jason Boulton, died at the age of 36 on November 7, 2020 as the result of an automobile accident.
A brother, G. B. Blair, preceded her in death on October 18, 1997 at the age of 63 and her nephew, Wilse Kevin Blair also died at the age of 63 on December 16, 2022 as the result of an accidental explosion in his home shop.
Mrs. Overstreet was an accomplished cook and had worked at the former Snow Creek Restaurant and the former Rock City Truck Stop. She retired from the Welch Company in Gordonsville.
She was a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church in the Sullivans Bend Community.
Surviving is her grandson, Justin Boulton and wife Rebekah of Houston Texas and a granddaughter, Tristian Boulton Jennette and husband Terry of Santa Fe, Tennessee; and five great-grandchildren.
The Overstreet family has requested memorials to the Overstreet Family Cemetery Mowing Fund.
