Obit – Mrs. Lola King
A Godly Christian Lady, Mrs. Lola King, has ended her earthly journey and is now enjoying her heavenly home after being pronounced deceased at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon October 11, 2024 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she was resting from a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. King was 77 years, 1 months and three days of age.
Her longtime minister of over forty-eight years, Edward L. Anderson, will officiate at the 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon October 19th funeral service from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial will follow beside their son, “Nugie” in the Garden of The Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
She was born Lola Mae Malone in the Bethpage Community of Sumner County on September 8, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Enoch Fred Malone who died December 3, 1984 at the age of 71 and Maggie Lee Goodall Malone who died when the children were young.
Siblings preceding her in death were Roscoe Hall Jr., Phoenix Hall, Annie Belle Cowan, Lela Frances Fitts, and Frank James Hyder and a sister-in-law, Verlon Malone.
Mrs. King and her husband, Bobby Gene King, suffered the loss of a son, Robert Quinton “Nugie” King who died suddenly on November 3, 1993 at the age of 27 following his military service. He died in Frankfurt, Germany and was brought home to Carthage where he had graduated with the class of 1985 at Smith County High School and where he was an outstanding football player.
She was a recipient of her General Education Degree and her first job was at the former W. E. Stephens Manufacturing Co. on Ward Ave. in Carthage, then at the Dura Corporation in Gordonsville. Her work career ended as a nurse technician at the former Smith County Health Care Center.
She was a devoted member and attendee at the Carthage Church of Christ.
Surviving in addition to her husband Bobby “Buck” King are their other two sons, Dr. Eric King of Nashville, Barry King of Antioch in Davidson County, three siblings, Ben Malone of Antioch, Dorthy J. Corley of Gallatin, Caroline Sales and husband John of Nashville; five grandchildren, Korrey King and wife Dani of North Carolina, Alisha Weitzel of Frankfurt, Germany, Kimberlea Bush Strong and husband David of Baxter, Kaleb Bush and wife Lauren Crockett Bush of the Defeated Creek Community, Jasmine King of Antioch; two great grandchildren, Walker and Bristol Strong.
