Obit – Ms. Mary Martin

Ms. Mary Martin age 76 died at 8 a.m. Monday morning January 13, 2025 and was pronounced deceased at 9 a.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston at her daughter, Angie Brimm’s, Beasley Bend Road farm home in the Riddleton Community. 

Ms. Martin was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her services were conducted by the Gordonsville Methodist Church pastor, Bro. Floyd Massey on Thursday afternoon January 16th at 11 a.m. Burial followed in the Martin family section in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

She was one of eight children, five sons and three daughters and was born Mary Ann Martin in Carthage on September 21, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Robert Allen “Jack” Martin who died at the age of 68 on December 9, 1973 and Ann Evelena Woodard Martin who died at the age of 71 on May 27, 1988.

A sister, Dimple Martin Vetitoe, died December 13, 2022 at the age of 78 and three brothers also preceded her in death, Robert C. Martin died May 13, 2012 at the age of 69, William Dawson “Bill” Martin who died December 4, 2013 at the age of 72 and Leroy Martin who died June 13, 2015 at the age of 69.

Ms. Martin was a member of the 1967 graduating class of Smith County High School where she majored in business education and minored in home economics. It was sated of her in the ’67 Owl annual, “Little not loud; pretty not proud.”

She was a 2000 retiree of the Federal Mogul in Gordonsville.

Of the Methodist faith, she attended the Gordonsville Methodist Church.

Ms. Martin possessed a kind and dry witted personality and was an easy person to make friends and had a great love for her children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters.

Surviving her are her two children, Angie Summers Brimm and husband Andy of the Riddleton Community, Jamie Summers and wife Jennifer Long Summers of the Hickman Community; three grandchildren, Jorja and Jude Summers of the Hickman Community and Hadley Brimm of the Riddleton Community; sister, Willie Martin Lambert and husband Donnie of the Elmwood Community; two brothers, Ray Martin and wife Patricia McKinney Martin of the Popes Hill Community, Raymond Martin of South Carthage.

The Martin family requests memorials to the Gordonsville Methodist Church.
