Obit – Mrs. Karen Hewitt
A retired United States Air National Guard, Mrs. Karen Hewitt of Hartsville, departed this life at the age of 77 and began her reunion with her beloved husband Charlie of over fifty years. She was pronounced deceased at 11:07 p.m. at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, Kentucky with her family at her side.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday afternoon August 29th at 1 p.m. from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with pastor T. J. Hewitt officiating. Burial followed beside her husband in the Hewitt family plot at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
She was born Alice Karen Waller on May 5, 1949 in Westfield in Albermarle County, Virginia and was the middle child of five children of the late Robert William Waller Sr. and Dorothy Isabelle Hedrick Waller.
Two brothers preceded her in death, Thomas Waller and Allen Waller.
In Baltimore, Maryland on June 30, 1973, she was united in marriage to Walter Charles (Charlie) Hewitt who preceded her in death on October 1, 2023 at the age of 81.
She was educated in Baltimore where she received her General Education Degree.
After Mr. Charlie retired as a brakeman with the railroad, they relocated to Hartsville in 1997.
She entered active military service with the United States Air Force in Baltimore, Maryland on November 12, 1981. She was a member of the 175th Wing Defense with the Air National Guard and retired in the accounting and finance division of the military. She retired out of the Louisville, Kentucky Air National Guard.
Upon her retirement on July 31, 2002, she held the rank of Technical Sergent.
Mrs. Hewitt was a non-denominational Christian.
Surviving are her two daughters, Christine Marie McMillion and husband Eric of Williamsburg, Virginia, Shana Trent and husband Terry II of Bowling Green, Kentucky; son, Ernest William Waller of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Lydia Eileen Waller and Mary Reeves both of Baltimore, Maryland; brother, Robert Waller Jr. of Max Meadows, Virginia; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
