CARTHAGE -— The Gordonsville Junior High Tigerettes snared their second straight county championship with a 44-32 win over Defeated last Saturday night.
The Tigerettes used a 29-16 run in the final two periods to erase a one point halftime deficit and improve to 15-2 overall.
The top-seed scored the first nine points of the third quarter to seize control of the game which was held at Bill Landreth Gym in Carthage.
Lanie Foster led the Tigerettes with 15 points followed by Isabella Frye with 12. Haddie Agee had eight points including two momentum building treys. Rylee Dillard knocked in seven points for the Tigerettes, while Emma Miller completed the scoring with two points.
“I am just super proud of this group of young ladies,” said Tigerettes head coach Terri Brock who is in her first year with the program. “They are hard workers and they put in a lot of extra gym time outside of our practices together. For this group, that is all of the difference in the world.”
Brock continued, “What you are seeing this season, is not just from work put in this season — but from years of work. They are young as seventh and eighth graders but all of the hard work they have put in — is helping us accomplish all we are accomplishing this year. That is what it takes.”
During their 2024-2025 campaign, the Tigerettes squared off against county opponents in six battles including the county tournament. Big Blue outscored county competition 323-77 en route to back-to-back county championships.
“All of this hard work is leading up to the ultimate goal which is for them to have success when they get to high school too,” said Brock. “I think this group has the mentality and the work ethic- — I look for big things from them in the future.”

you left out that Rylee Dillard had 7 points in the championship game. I am disappointed as her grandmother that this has been overlooked. she has had a great season and deserves to be recognized along with her team mates.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for this mistake in the scoring. You are correct, they do deserve to be recognized for an outstanding season!
