Obit – Mrs. Christine Carver
A respected Christian lady, Mrs. Christine Carver, better known by family and friends as Teenie, departed this earthly walk and began her heavenly journey at the Knollwood Manor in Lafayette where she was under the care of Gentiva Hospice. She was pronounced deceased at 2:37 a.m. Wednesday morning February 12, 2025 at the age of 91 with her family at her bedside.
Funeral services from the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church were conducted on Monday morning February 17th at 11 a.m. with Eld. Kevin Graham and Eld. Shawn Shepherd officiating. Interment followed beside her husband in section five at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens with Eld. Rickey Hall officiating.
She was the only daughter of two children of the late Herman Alfred West who died at the age of 73 on June 4, 1979 and Georgia Hammel Powell West who died at the age of 87 on December 19, 1998 and was born Christine West in the Difficult Community on October 1, 1933.
At the home of her uncle, C. L. (Lumas) Powell on June 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Pleasant Shade Community native, Dortch Key Carver who preceded her in death on March 21, 2021 at the age of 84 after suffering an apparent aneurysm on Sunday morning while attended church. Teenie was a devoted wife and a wonderful example of a virtuous woman which we read about in Proverbs 31.
Her only sibling, Prentice C. “Hoss” West preceded her in death on January 27, 2014 at the age of 83 and his wife Wayne Gray Kittrell West who died March 16,2013 at the age of 78.
Mrs. Carver was saved at the age of 12 on the altar at the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church during their revival in 1946 and united with the church that same year. She was baptized by then church pastor, the late Eld. W. T. Russell, that same year. She remained a faithful and devoted member, attending regularly as long as her health would allow.
Early in life she was employed at the former W. E. Stephens Manufacturing Co. in Carthage and from the mid-seventies until her retirement in 1984 she was a cook at the Defeated Creek elementary School.
Following Dortch’s retirement from Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, he read water meters for the Town of Carthage and Teenie drove him around town for him to do the readings.
She so loved taking care of her family and her home; she loved her church, her many friends and neighbors, was an excellent cook, and she loved tending to her beautiful flowers.
Due to health conditions, Teenie was mostly confined to her home before her passing. She had many health issues, but now her cares and troubles are past, and her joy has just begun in the land of the eternal living. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints” Psalms 116:15.
Surviving are her two children, Shelia Carver Grigg and husband Frank of the Kempville Community, Ronnie Carver and wife Mary Williams Carver of the Difficult Community; four grandchildren, Heather Grigg, Alicia Grigg Davenport and husband Christopher all of the Kempville Community, Elizabeth Carver Rankin and husband Brad of Manchester, Aaron Carver and wife Madison Hopper Carver of the Difficult Community; four great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Beau Davenport, Sophie Rankin and Jameson Carver, her only nephew, Mikey West of the Defeated Creek Community.
The Carver family has requested memorials to the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
