SOUTH CARTHAGE — The Smith County Junior League baseball All-Stars were crowned Tennessee State Champions last Tuesday night after a drama packed 15-14 comeback win over Murfreesboro at Crump Paris Park.

All four of Smith County’s outings in the state tournament were one run games including the unit’s three wins.

In the championship bout, Smith County was down to their last three outs entering the seventh frame after a furious seven run rally from Murfreesboro.

The hosting Smith County All-Stars knotted the game at 14-all after a sacrifice fly from Cohen Jimenez plated a run Bryson Johnson run. Johnson barreled over the Murfreesboro catcher for the close call at home.

A Smith County double play ended Murfreesboro’s scoring threat in the bottom of the seventh frame and forced an extra eighth inning.

League rules place a runner at second for both teams once extra inning play begins.

Rome Robinson scored the eventual game-winning run for Smith County after a Murfreesboro walk and an error.
