CLASS 1A CHAMPIONSHIP
Gordonsville vs. Eagleville
The Gordonsville Tigerettes volleyball team made their first Class 1A State Tournament in the program’s 26 year history. The unit rode their momentum all the way to the championship game.
Big Blue fell to mid-state powerhouse Eagleville 3-1 as the program claimed the 1A Runners-up trophy.
Gordonsville’s program-best run concluded with a 25-2 record as Big Blue clinched the District 8-1A title, Region 4-1A championship and 1A Sectional title en route to the championship appearance.
“It is just a great group of girls and I could not be prouder to get to this stage and to make it all the way to the championship game,” said Gordonsville High head coach Brian Leslie. “I do not know that anybody was expecting us to do that other than us. To pull off some really big wins down here at the state tournament and we wanted one more. But we just got beat by a better team today and I could not be prouder of the effort that we have had all year long including today.”
Leslie continued, “It creates excitement around it and makes others want to be a part of it. The support from the community all year long but especially these last couple weeks, and the crowd that came out today to support the girls shows that we live in a pretty special town.”
