MONTEREY — Saturday’s Monterey Thanksgiving Tournament girls final pitted the Gordonsville High Tigerettes against former District 7-1A foe the Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes as the two squads battled for championship.
The Tigerettes used a 23-9 second quarter surge to snare a 46-27 victory over the Lady Buffaloes and legendary head coach Lamar Rogers.
Gordonsville kept their perfect record intact as Big Blue moved to 6-0 under second year head coach Terri Brock. Clarkrange dropped to 4-3 overall.
The 19 point triumph was Gordonsville’s second over the Lady Buffaloes in less than a week as the Tigerettes claimed a 45-39 victory last Monday night at GHS.
Big Blue was led by Lily Brock and Molly Storie who tossed in a dozen apiece. Lanie Foster and Derionna Bell tossed in six apiece while Makenize Herron added five. Brooke Burke posted three points while Bailey Trusty concluded the scoring with two free throws.
The Lady Buffaloes only had three players to tally points in the contest with Lydia Phillips 13 points leading the way. Sophie Sitton tossed in nine while Katelyn Cottle concluded the squad’s scoring with five points.
The Tigerettes led throughout the opening frame as the unit built a 10-6 advantage in the first quarter despite seven first quarter turnovers. Storie sparked Big Blue’s fast start with six first quarter points. Phillips tallied three of the Lady Buffaloes six first quarter points.
