MR. BASEBALL FINALIST; Gordonsville’s Bennett selected among 1A elite

GORDONSVILLE  — Gordonsville baseball’s all-time strikeout leader is adding another accolade as the Tigers’ senior pitcher Colton Bennett has been named a Class 1A Mookie Betts Mr. Baseball finalists.

East Tennessee State signee Bennett, who holds the state’s record for no-hitters, was named a finalist last week along with Coalfield’s Jackson Treece and Greenfield’s Easton Sullivan.

The award, which is presented by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA), will host its ceremony on May 19th in Murfreesboro at The Family Worship Center. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. 

Bennett ended the 2026 regular season with an 8-1 overall pitching record including three no-hitters. The future Buccaneer holds the state record for no-hitters with nine in his prep career.

 The veteran lefty posted 116 strikeouts, breaking his own single season record, during the 2026 regular season. 

In 55 innings pitched, Bennett allowed nine hits and compiled a 0.6 ERA.
