August elections near; sample ballot, information inside

Staff Writer

“Out of the ordinary” describes this summer’s August 6 County General Election.

Only one of six full-time offices will be challenged in this summer’s election.

Meanwhile, it’s a mixed bag when it comes to county commission races.

Only two of eight county commission districts are challenged in the upcoming election.

In one county commission district, no candidate qualified to be on this summer’s ballot.

In other districts, there are not enough candidates to fill all vacant seats.

Meanwhile in some districts there are just enough candidates to fill the three open seats.

Turning to school board races, it’s also an unusual election year.

Some candidates ran in the May Democratic and Republican Primary Election and are on the August 6 ballot.

In one school board district, no candidate will be listed on the ballot but three candidates have announced as write-in candidates.

In another district there are four candidates running for one seat.

Meanwhile in two other school board districts two Republican nominees are running unopposed.

In the election overall, Independent candidates, who qualified months ago, will appear on the ballot for the first time in the August 6 election.

The August 6 elections will also include a South Carthage Municipal Election and Tennessee Primary Election.

Candidates for all three elections are included on the sample ballot which is located inside this edition of the Courier.
