WESTMORELAND — The Smith County High Owls football team once again found itself in a close game in the second half for the second consecutive week. 

Livingston scored the final 23 points in last week’s game and after a scoreless first half the game hung in the balance. 

Westmoreland scored 12 second half points to improve to 3-1 with a 12-0 victory at Owls’ Stadium in Carthage. 

“I’m proud of the way our guys fought hard all night,” said SCHS head coach Matt Dyer. “Defensively we made some plays and created some turnovers to give our offense some extra possessions, however we only had five offensive possessions on the night through four quarters. But our guys played really hard and we had a chance in the fourth quarter when we held them to their second field goal. And that’s all you can ask for a young and inexperienced team to do, is play hard, give maximum effort and have a chance to win in the fourth quarter. 

Dyer continued, “We still need to execute a lot better and make plays when we have a chance. I thought we had some guys step up and make some plays when they had a chance. Jenkins made some good throws but we need to protect much better. Cohen Jimenez had a good game, made some plays on offense and a pick on defense — also Josh Hernandez made some plays for us on offense and defense.”
