TIGERS DEALT FIRST DEFEAT

Liberty Creek 34, Gordonsville 13

GALLATIN — Despite having their best offensive output through four games thus far in 2026, the Gordonsville High Tigers football team suffered their first setback last Friday night with a 34-13 loss at Class 4A program Liberty Creek. 

Big Blue had cut their 19-7 halftime deficit to 19-13 and were set to receive the Wolves’ second straight third quarter punt before lightning in the area forced the contest to enter a nearly hour and a half weather delay. 

When the game resumed with 3:26 remaining in the third frame, the Liberty Creek defense bowed up and stopped a promising Tigers’ drive as the visitors were looking to potentially take the lead in Gallatin.

The Wolves tallied touchdowns on both of their two fourth quarter possessions and cashed in on a fourth quarter Gordonsville turnover to eventually claim a 21 point victory. 

Liberty Creek improved to 3-1 overall and avenged a 27-14 loss last season to Big Blue. 

Gordonsville fell to 3-1 overall and had their streak of 13 consecutive regular season wins broken. 

“It was a roller coaster ride of emotions — up and down,” said GHS football head coach Stephen Jackson about the non-region encounter. “We would have some good things happen and then they would have some good things happen. But that is what good football games are, they go back-and-forth. We have to make plays — we get a bad penalty on the first series after the rain delay and then we turn the ball over the next series.”

“We have to take care of our selves and if we take care of ourselves we are in that ball game with a chance to win. It is a good learning experience. Like I told the kids, you can learn from this and get better. That is what we expect our football team to do.”
