Obit – Anthony Addy
Anthony Addy, aged 80, longtime resident of Chestnut Mound, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on 4 October 2026 at his son’s home in Beverly Beach, Florida.
Anthony was born in Fitzwilliam, Yorkshire, England, to Herbert Addy and Jane Tate Addy, on February 14th 1946. He was a resident of Chestnut Mound, TN for 44 years and a recent resident of Beverly Beach, FL.
At the age of 15, he joined the British Army, beginning a proud military career that included service in Malaya and Aden, Yemen. He was especially proud to have served with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) and treasured his time as a bugler in a British Army band. He retired from British military service in 1978 and in 2011 retired from Bonnell Aluminum.
Anthony shared 62 years of marriage with his wife, Mary Elizabeth Draper Addy.
He is survived by his son, John Addy; his daughter, Angela (Thomas) Gibbs; his grandchildren, Michelle Addy (Barry O’Brien), Samantha (Luis) Rodriguez, Brandon Addy, and Jessica (Dustin) Dillehay; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Dillehay, Noah Bascom, Oliver O’Brien, Josie Rodriguez, and Sophia Rodriguez; and his brothers, John Addy, Brian Addy, and David Addy.
In addition to his parents and wife, Anthony was preceded in death by his siblings, Joan Ash, Bill Addy, Eric Addy, and Josephine Addy, as well as his daughters-in-law, Josie Addy and Angie Addy.
Anthony loved travelling, meeting people and, most of all, being surrounded by his friends and family. Fun-loving and outgoing, he rarely met a stranger. Those who knew him will remember his playful curiosity and mischievous sense of humour. As his family fondly says, if there was a button to be pushed, Anthony would push it.
His years as a bugler and his service with the British Army remained important sources of pride throughout his life. He played in the KOYLI band at Sir Wiston Churchill’s funeral on an extremely cold January day in 1965.
Anthony will be cremated in Beverly Beach, Florida, in accordance with his wishes. No memorial service will be held.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends and all whose lives were brightened by his outgoing spirit and love of life.
